FUN FACT: Starting in 1921, the Hoyas original mascot was a war hero, who happened to be a dog named Sergeant Stubby. Stubby was the most decorated war dog of World War I, and the only dog to be promoted to Sergeant for combat. Stubby learned to warn his units of poison gas attacks, locate wounded soldiers in No Mans Land, and alert his unit when to duck for cover from incoming artillery shells (he could hear the whine of the shells before humans).
